Cognitive Educational Therapy
Total Learning Centers Premier Program
Cognitive Educational Therapy improves five areas of the brain’s “executive functioning” necessary for learning: Focus, Working Memory, Processing (Thinking) Speed, Visual Processing and Auditory Processing. CET applies the most recent scientific research for optimal functioning in school, home, social, and work environments.
Focus
Students have fun while being challenged with activities to improve four types of attention:
· Sustained Attention
· Selective Attention
· Alternating Attention
· Divided Attention
Deficits in memory and learning are frequently a consequence of impaired attention. Working directly on focusing allows individuals to:
· Become less distractible
· Speed up information processing
· Shift attention between multiple tasks
· Pay attention to multiple sources of information at the same time
Working Memory
A weak memory leads to learning problems. These research based activities strengthen memory and simultaneously improve attention and mental processing. ·
· Visual Working Memory-The efficiency of storing, retaining, and retrieving visual information within the time period of a task.
· Integrated Working Memory-The efficiency of storing, retaining, retrieving, and integrating visual and auditory information within the time period of a task.
· Integrated Delayed Working Memory-The efficiency of storing, retaining, retrieving, and integrating visual and auditory information over an extended period of time.
Processing Speed
· Carefully designed exercises help “coach” individuals to increase their processing speed
· Increase speed of response
· Increase reading, math and writing fluency
· Increase school success in tests, class participation and note taking
Visual Processing
· Visual Processing Speed-The reception of visual information and rapid performance of related easy tasks.
· Visual Processing-To comprehend, manipulate, organize and think with visual information.
Auditory Processing
· Auditory Processing-To comprehend, manipulate, organize and think with auditory information.
Cognitive Therapy applies the most recent scientific research for improving one’s ability to process information and function optimally in school, home, social, and work environments.
