The ATHENA Award is given to a man or woman who devotes time and energy to improve the quality of life for others. FOUNDER, DIRECTOR OF TOTAL LEARNING CENTERS TO SERVE ON DYSLEXIA ASSOCIATION STATE BOARD
WEXFORD, Pa. (August 17, 2010) — Dr. Carol Utay, co-founder and executive director of Total Learning Centers (TLC), was recently appointed to the state board of directors of The International Dyslexia Association (IDA). Utay previously served on the board of the local branch, Western Pennsylvania IDA, since its inception nearly a decade ago. She will continue in her service to the Pittsburgh region’s group while maintaining her new duties to IDA.
The Pennsylvania Branch of The International Dyslexia Association (PBIDA), serving Pennsylvania and Delaware, provides support and information for individuals, families and educational professionals concerned with the issues of dyslexia and learning differences.

Dr. Joe Utay, Director of Counseling and Evaluation Services for Total Learning Centers and former professor for Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Counseling, is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, a school psychologist, marriage and family therapist, author, national speaker, and father.
Dr. Carol Utay is Executive Director of Total Learning Centers. She is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and an expert in learning and special education. Dr. Carol has experience as a principal, Orton-Gillingham reading therapist, teacher, consultant, national speaker, professor, author, and mother. She is also a national Athena Award winner for community service.
