Evaluations and Testing
Does your child suddenly say he or she is “sick” the morning of test day at school? Does your child ace homework only to do very poorly on tests? These are signs your child may have test anxiety or may simply just not understand how to study appropriately for tests.
Test anxiety and lack of test-taking skills are two quite common problem areas for children. Total Learning Centers has the caring staff and proven programs to help your child gain confidence and conquer test taking. Our test preparation courses are tailored to your child’s specific needs. TLC designs appropriate programs that combine test anxiety control with specific study skills and test-taking strategies for your child.

Types of Evaluations
Psychoeducational Evaluations
This test helps identify intellectual functioning (IQ), unique learning styles, academic achievement levels, and social/emotional needs. Reading, math, listening skills, written expression, and more are offered. Testing is recommended yearly to prevent problems, monitor progress and aid in planning.
Intelligence (IQ) Tests
Given by our certified school psychologists, these tests help to understand intellectual strengths and weaknesses. Both the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children and the Stanford-Binet are available, as well as the Test of Non-Verbal Intelligence and the Cognitive Battery of the Woodcock Johnson. IQ testing can be used to help qualify students for services in their public schools, such as the gifted program. Psychoeducational evaluations rely upon current research findings published by the National Institute of Health and Human Services (NIH) specifying the best practice guidelines for diagnosis, and intervention for those with learning and attention challenges.
Reading and Math
Total Learning Centers provides valid and reliable math and reading diagnostic assessments that allows us to provide baseline data, individualize instruction, and to support state and national standards.
Attention Deficit
Is your child exhibiting symptoms of attention deficit disorder? There is much information in the media, including behavior checklists that are nonspecific and confusing. Total Learning Centers can help with a psychoeducational evaluation. We work with several pediatricians to provide medical support if needed.

Speech & Language
During the initial evaluation, the speech/language pathologist obtains a detailed history of the problem from the individual or a family member. (The child could be referred for hearing screening or formal assessment by a certified audiologist.) Specific tests will be administered to determine the nature of the problem and the best treatment approach to improve speech, voice, language skills or the thinking and memory skills that are critical for appropriate and effective communication.
Reports and Consultations
Tailored to provide clear, user-friendly recommendations, reports and consultations are targeted to improve learning, attention, behavior and academic success.
A written report summarizing findings and recommendations will be sent to your physician and/or to teachers or other professionals.
