Medical, Educational and Legal Interventions for Students with Autism
Are you aware of the resources available to students with autism? Total Learning Centers and ABOARD’s Autism Connection of PA are hosting a seminar that will give parents and professionals an opportunity to learn about these resources from professionals who work with families and students with autism on a daily basis. To provide a very holistic approach, the seminar will include three speakers. Dr. Anthony Kovatch, Physician at Pediatric Alliance, will begin by discussing theories on the causes of autism, as well as established therapies and alternative biomedical approaches. Dr. Carol Utay, Executive Director of Total Learning Centers, will then explain the effects that executive functioning has on children with autism and provide tips for improvement to make learning easier. Charles Jelley, Attorney at Tremba, Jelley & Kinney, LLC, will explain the elements of a legally sufficient evaluation and the requirements of an IEP for students with autism. Parents of, and professionals that work with, children diagnosed with autism are encouraged to attend prepared with questions and the desire to learn.
Join us on Thursday, February 20, 2014 from 9 AM until 12 PM at ABOARD’s Autism Connection of PA, located at 35 Wilson Street, Suite 100 in Pittsburgh, PA to better understand all of the factors that affect your child with autism and how to best help them.
