Reading Remediation Program
WORLD OF READING:
BREAKING THE CHAINS OF STRUGGLING READERS
Why Is My Child Struggling With Reading?
Glad you asked. Believe it or not, successful reading is a highly complicated task for our brains!
Fluent readers must take visual information (letters on a page) -> translate it into sounds -> and then pull from a mental “dictionary” to create meaning - using dozens of skills in the process.
If one or more of these skills is deficient, it becomes increasingly difficult for a student to comprehend what they’ve read.
What is the World of Reading Program?
The World of Reading Program is an individualized, multisensory approach to reading instruction, based on the Orton-Gillingham model.
By engaging all the different learning pathways in the brain, we strengthen reading comprehension and address the underlying deficits that cause reading difficulties.
We always begin with a free consultation to discover where your child is at in their reading abilities. Then, our in-house evaluations staff will help you find the right testing package to obtain your child’s baseline score.
Armed with data, we can then create the perfect program to meet your child’s unique reading needs.
The World of Reading Remediation Program Package Includes:
Comprehensive Suite of Exercises Based on Orton Gillingham Model
In-Person 1:1 Tutoring Experience (Hybrid/Online Options Available)
Customized Program to Match Baseline Testing Level Abilities
Curriculum Starting Anywhere from Beginner Letters & Sounds To Graduate-Level Reading Comprehension
READING SKILL PROGRESSION
Tutors at Total Learning Centers will ensure that your students completely master each of these steps before moving on to the next. This kind of “Mastery Learning” guides our teaching philosophy by helping kids not only to get it “right”, but to practice until they can’t get it wrong!
Phonological Awareness
Understanding and manipulating sounds and letters in words and parts of words.
Decoding
Applying the rules of syllables, sounds, and word parts to real words. Students can be confident that they are identifying each sound in a word accurately.
Fluency
Increasing decoding speed with longer passages, pattern recognition, and increased automaticity of phonics skills.
Comprehension
Pulling meaning from age-appropriate texts by improving vocabulary, teaching word roots, and detailed instruction in varied passage types.
